Our Leadership for the area is Elder Tad Callister, Elder Teh and Elder Keele. They are seated to my left in this photo. The AZ Missions are: Phoenix, Tucson, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert and Scottsdale.
We were instructed on doctrine first.
1 Peter 3:15
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.
We learned that we do not need to be afraid to have an answer. If someone asks a question about how to interpret a scripture, we can look further to find help in other scriptures.
For example, if someone says "No man has seen God...it says so in John 1:18.
Then, you can lead them through other scriptures that help you see that meanings of scriptures may not be literal.
John 6:46 says "He which is of God has seen God."
3John 11 says that he that does good is of God. And he who does evil has not seen God.
SO, we can interpret that scriptures to mean that those who do good can see God and evil men cannot see God.
I love that we have both the Bible and Book of Mormon to help us find answers to questions. It is best to have several references to back up any question.
Our Assistants were trained that their primary duty is to find, teach and baptize. They are not office elders or errand boys. They model and train what the Mission President wants taught in their own area as well as on exchanges with all the Zone Leaders.
We were also taught about being CONSECRATED MISSIONARIES. What are we willing to put on the altar of consecration? Are we willing to be more than mediocre missionaries? Can we change our behavior, stay focused from distractions, overcome fears and Open Our Mouths?We reported how our missions are doing with working with recent converts and continuing to teach for 3 months after baptism as they are still integrating into the wards. It is a great program!
After our training, we went with the Tucson group over to show them the Mesa Temple.
While we were there, we met with our friends from Provo, the Camerons, who are serving in the Visitor Center there.
Our daughters ran at BYU together so we saw each other on several occasions over those special years.
We love the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We love our mission.
Every day we learn something new on how we can be better servants of our Heavenly Father, and how we can live and teach the doctrine of Christ more effectively.
